Earthquake Information–parental role
Here at Macaulay School we are continuing to work on our earthquake planning and preparation. One of the things we want parents to know is what is your role is if a major earthquake happens while your child is at school.
Parent Role
- Please make every effort to pick up your child from school as soon as you can. This is where your emergency information regarding who is allowed to pick up your child is important to keep up to date–we need to know that we have your permission to release your child into a certain person’s care.
Pickup Procedure
Do not directly approach the Lyall Street playing field where the children are waiting. This is very important because if the waiting students see a constant stream of parents reuniting with their children right in front of them, they will become more and more anxious as time goes by and they have not been picked up. Please go to the school staff waiting at the reunification area on the east side of the school between the 2 playgrounds.(the wooden one and the coloured playground.) They will have the paper work necessary to safely let the child into your care.
- Report to the reunification area, giving the name and division number of the child you are picking up.
- The staff will radio or send a runner out to the Lyall Street field to get your child and bring them back to the playground area to meet with you.
- School staff will check to make sure the person picking up the student has authorization to do so and they will record who has picked the child up. This last part is to keep a record so if a 2nd parent or authorized person comes we can tell them who the child went home with.
